The Russian Manor

A Russian manor is the microcosm of a large patriarchal family, bringing back the memories of a few generations of Russian nobility. Grandparents, parents, children—all living together in peace. Here children are raised and educated; impoverished relatives and widowed aunties find shelter; and nannies and wet nurses live out their days. Friends and neighbors are regular guests here; resident tutors have become lawful tenants. This small, private world is characterized by inner harmony and peace with surrounding nature.

Yet the still, blazing air of July hovers, blurring this strictly traditional way of life, so familiar to Russians. It begins to appear to be a mirage. Luckily, we have done our best to reconstruct the outward shape and noble character of this kind of house. We trust that with time and God’s will, it will be filled with lives well-lived.
